Protection systems

The existence of a problem caused by the effects of harmful contents on children is still not specifically considered to be an issue. It is even better to say that a person usually does not want to believe that his/her own family can be affected by such a problem.
However, one child over five comes in contact with situations that are considered to be out of the ordinary, and that may have a harmful impact on the child’s own perception and psychological balance.

These are the results of the TNS Social & Opinion survey:

A great deal of the filtering/blocking systems used is nothing else than blacklists (simple URL lists that are blocked if requested). The marginal efficiency of such tools is determined by the need to constantly update. There are millions of sites that appear and disappear every day, and many of them are illegal or pornographic. The following day, they may appear with different URL’s, making the blacklist inefficient, unless one wants monitor all of Internet’s dynamics (we are only referring to approximately one billion sites!). It is always necessary to bear in mind that no system is capable of guaranteeing a 100% filtering of contents, not even blacklists.
Unlike static (or semi-dynamic) systems such as blacklists, there are systems that filter pages by analyzing them prior to exposing their contents to a minor. This type of analysis is based on calculations - mathematical algorithms – that assess in different ways the contents according to typology, words, and/or images.
The results of the types of protection used so far seem to be quite disappointing. A parent’s presence next to his/her child is still the best solution, since the simple rules of conduct, or the use of normal filters seem to give no benefit.

KEYfamily uses a dynamic parsing of contents, assessing if it is appropriate or not to show a certain page to a child. All this occurs in a blink of an eye.

Studies carried out at the premises of some of our clients, who are expert users of filters, show that childKEY technology (at the heart of all KEYline systems) is the most performing, featuring a percentage of positivity equal to 98 over 100*.
