Parents! Which rules?
The Eurobarometer 2005 - Safer Internet survey points out that generally not even half of parents establish rules of conduct explaining to their children what they must not do once they are connected to the Internet.
Only in families with children aged 6 to13, the percentage of parents who give suggestions to their children on how to behave while using the Internet is above 40%.

These are the most commonly established rules:

The need to establish rules, so useful and important in a child’s development, in addition to its function of behavioral guideline may also be considered helpful for parents, especially when they cannot spend time with their children.
In reality, few parents can sit down with their children while they are using the Internet. It is truly a pity that grown-ups are not able to share with their children interests and curiosities that may stimulate their children’s hunger for knowledge; the discovery of exciting creations made by computer graphic geniuses, and pleasant Flash animations that show children and parents what can be achieved with technology or with good, genuine fantasy; the laughter and fun that parents and children have while they watch video clips available on the Web; the chance to witness how research, storage and sharing of information are changing. Let us think of all the school projects everyone of us has done on subjects like Science, History, Literature, Physics. How did we manage to do them?
