Are you informed?
Do you know that children usually have at least two or more mailboxes than their parents are aware of?
Do you know that most parents have no idea of what their children do when they use the computer?
Do you know that parents and children would like to be more informed on how to use the Internet?
The EU survey points out that parents would like to be more informed, but either they often do not have a clue on who can provide them with this kind of information or they simply believe that the Institutions are the ones to give reliable information and data.

School appears to be the information center par excellence, even though only the most enlightened teachers are able to suggest tools that allow a safe use and control of the Internet. As a consequence, schools should be the first to be equipped with protection and monitoring systems for the Web, although not every school is provided with them yet. Many schools have chosen KEYstudent, which is our professional proposal of quality, tailored for the needs of public and private schools which offer terminals equipped with an Internet connection.
The EU survey also shows that Europeans seem averagely informed about collection centers, which report sites that divulge illegal material. However, the range goes from a very high awareness of such collection centers in Denmark (79%) to a less reassuring situation in Lithuania (17%).

To whom must the existence of illegal content found on the Web be reported to? Europeans have given the following answers:

Only a distressing average of 4% of people is aware of the existence of Hotlines and Tiplines. These are systems usually subsidized by the EU and existing in almost all EU countries. Hotlines and Tiplines are collection centers of information and complaints, besides being important tools that may help and assist parents and children alike.
